ABOUT

"A Powerful Pinay" was written with the next generation in mind and for the mothers and grandmothers who wished they had something like this when they were growing up.   Author Melissa Leslie-Quinones carved out literary space for these resilient dignified matriarchs who protected the very heart of Filipino people.  This book includes hand drawn art and quotes not in the soft cover book.

Unlike 'A Powerful Pinay!' for Baby, this book gives a fuller insight from A to Z.   "A Powerful Pinay!" for children, gives 26 extraordinary short biographies of women who have laid down their lives for their people, preserving and serving including Artists, Activists, Leaders and Pioneers.

'A Powerful Pinay!' is composed of fun colorful illustrated portraits of real Pinay who have shaped the history of Filipina around the globe in powerful and courageous ways.  It also includes the timelines of their lives, a map of their place of birth, examples of pre-colonial kingdoms, innovations and a special place for the reader to make notes about their own journey and ancestors.

Written and illustrated by Artist Melissa Leslie-Quinones gives a glimpse into monumentally important, resilient, heroic and influential women of history of Filipino descent for children and families to have open dialogue to understand their heritage and be encouraged in their identity.
